|I planted 4" delphinium plants over tulips. Is this going to work?
|Planting over top of larger spring bulbs such as tulips can be problematic in that the emerging tulips may push aside and possibly literally overshadow and overwhelm the baby plants. There is a further possible problem in that if you remove the tulips after they have bloomed you will cause substantial root disturbance to the entire bed and may thereby disrupt the delphiniums as well. If you planted in between the tulips and your tulips are well spaced, then they may have enough room to thrive. So much of gardening is a try it and see experiment. It should be lovely if it works!
