| Here in Rhode Island beautiful Lotus plants grow in the wild. I notice they grow around water areas (wetlands) I would like to grow some on my property in Massachusetts. I have a stream and natural spring which has beautiful ferns growing all around. I also have skunk cabbage growing. I thought this would be the perfect area for the lotus. Can it be grown? From seed??? Should I attempt to get seeds from the pods?? Any help on how I can have some of these great plants on my property would be wonderful. |
| In my experience lotus can quickly become invasive and in many cases are best not introduced into a wild natural area. E-mail: [email protected] and website http://www.newfs.org/ In the meantime, if you would like to grow some lotus at home, they do very well in small ornamental ponds and you can even grow a dwarf form in a large tub of water on your patio. They do require at least a foot or so of water and really need full sun all day long in order to bloom. They are normally propagated as divisions in the spring and can also be started using fresh seed in water.
