How do you know which way to plant a gladioli? I planted bulbs and they faced away from my window. Is there a way you can tell which is the front when planting the bulb? I have called many garden places and none seem to know the answer. You help would be appreciated.

There really is no front or back on a gladioli corm. Most flowers face the sun, and if you plant in a windowbox where natural light comes from only one direction, the flowers will grow on the side of the plant that provides the most sunshine. The only way to compensate for this is to allow the flower spike to form on the glads, then turn the entire flowerbox around so that the blossoms face the window.

You'd be surprised how may gardeners are disappointed when their sunflowers gaze over a south or west-facing fence instead of in toward the yard as expected. The flowers are tracking the sun, just as your glads are doing!
