There are as many opinions about the qualities of tomatoes as there are varieties of tomatoes and tomato growers! If you are really looking for taste you might try some of the heirloom types and see if they do well enough for you in terms of yield. You might also look at some of the newer varieties bred for disease resistance and see if you like their flavor. In my experience, they really do all taste good compared to store bought tomatoes -- especially the sweet cherry tomatoes which go until frost at my house. Your tomato quality will also reflect the growing conditions, so make sure your spot is in full sun and the soil is rich, well amended with organic matter, mulched, and kept evenly moist without being soggy.
