I have a catalog that says strawberry guava is an "ideal" houseplant. Is this true? How hard is it to grow indoors? Will it fruit? What are the light, temperature, and water requirements? I'm new to gardening, and don't want to bite off more than I can chew. I'd like to get a houseplant and this one sounded good. |
Strawberry Guava (Psidum cattleianum) is a dense shrub with leathery leaves and small berry-like, purplish-red fruit with strawberry flavor. It has the same growing requirements as indoor citrus: full sunshine and ample moisture (but can take short periods of drought). Provide average household warmth with a minimum of 50F in the winter. Place your plant in the sunniest spot available, water moderately all year around (keep the soil moist but not soggy wet), and mist the leaves occasionally. Your plant will produce fruit when it's mature enough, and if it's growing under just the right conditions. Good luck with your strawberry guava! |
