Tulips are usually purchased as bare bulbs and planted in the fall. They will come up and bloom the following spring. Sometimes they are available in bloom in the spring, too. They need a location in full sun and a spot that is well drained, meaning not soggy. Average soil is usually sufficient. After tulips bloom, remove the flower stems at the base and then allow the foliage to continue to grow and eventually ripen (turn brown) so that the bulbs can rebuild their strength to bloom again.
