While the hardiness zones can be a useful guide when selecting perennials and woody ornamentals, the zones are based only on average winter low temperature and so the average las spring frost dates are a separate issue. Just as your specific zone can be affected by the microclimate in your garden, so can your frost date, so use it as a guide. Your County Extension should be able to give you that date. Their telephone number is 727-7850.
