We have built a large trellis over our patio that gets mostly shade all day and would like to grow a vine over the top. Can you suggest a flowering, perennial vine that is fast growing and will tolerate the shady conditions?

You might try the sweet autumn clematis which is a relatively shade tolerant vine. It produces fragrant white flowers in the fall. It may take a year to become established but is generally a fast grower.
