Do strawberries (June-bearing) fruit the first year? I'm planning on planting a large patch for jam-making this summer.

Generally strawberries are not allowed to blossom the first year; the blossoms are usually removed when they are dug or at planting time. The reason for this is to enable them to become well established for better production in subsequent years.
