After a bromeliad plant flowers, it will produce "pups" which are young plants which grow around the base of the old plant. The old plant will soon die and the young pups will take over the next generation.

When the pups have root structures growing from their base or when they are at least 1/3 the size of the mother plant, they can be cut from the base where they attach to the mother plant and repotted to start new plants. Keep the soil at the base moist but not too wet and they will quickly take root and become well established.
