It depends on what you're growing. Some crops prefer to grow in the cooler weather and some can even tolerate a little frost. These cool season crops include such favorites as lettuce, broccoli, cabbage, petunias, and sweet peas. Some plants need the hot weather to produce and cannot tolerate temperatures much below 50 degrees F. Some such crops are sunflowers, zinnias, tomatoes, corn, and zucchini. So many gardeners are continuously planting different crops, depending on the season. To find out your best planting dates for your area, contact your local county extension agent (334-298-6845) who will have a list of what can be planted when in your area.
