| I have a mature weeping mulberry in the corner of my yard which has unruly branches growing straitght up, along with branches growing downward. I've kept the tree pruned straight across the bottom at shoulder height, but should I now consider pruning all the branches back to the trunk? I see several of my neighbors do this each year, while others leave the tree unpruned. |
| The main branches to prune on a weeping mulberry are any that are growing vertical (straight up). You should also consider pruning out any branches that are crossing or rubbing each other, as well as any that may ruin the overall look and balance of the tree. You may want to leave some of the semi-upright stems to develop naturally since they often grow downwards later and produce a tiered effect of weeping branches. Lastly if growths appear lower on the main stem pinch them out as soon as they appear. |
