I'm interested in the common bleeding heart (dicentra) I live in zone 8, at approximately 3500 ft elevation. How early could I safely plant the bleeding heart? And can I expect blooms the first year? |
Dicentra, or Bleeding Heart, is a spring or early summer bloomer and should provide flowers the first year if a rooted plant is placed in the ground in March or April. You can purchase seeds instead of plants, which may or may not bloom the first year, so if you absolutely have to have flowers the first year, find an established plant in a 6" or 1-gallon container. |
