I have 2 tropical potted plants that have new sprouts. One is a Guzmania Rana and I don't know what the other is called. How can I sucessfully separate them in hope of getting them to flower?

Guzmania is a bromeliad and will produce little offsets at the base of the plant. These offsets can be removed and potted up to form new plants. It takes several months for roots to develop after the offsets first appear, so watch them closely for signs of root development. Be sure to remove them carefully, taking roots and tops together, and plant in a sandy growing medium. The trick is to to pull them off gently, with a slight twisting motion and plant them shallowly in new pots. Keep the offsets warm until new growth signals they've become established in their new homes.
