Planting Hops Plants With Grapes? - Knowledgebase Question

My husband wants to plant his new hops plant in my grape arbor. He argues that it would be a great place because the hops vines need support. I understand that hops vines get huge, and I don't want my grapes crowded out. We are working with an area about 8 feet long, 2 or 3 feet wide and the arbor is about 16 feet high. Should I let the hops in?

I'm not sure I want to get in the middle of this one, but one perennial hops vine easily grows to 20 feet and the plants are normally allowed to develop a number of shoots. I think they could easily cover your arbor on their own -- or at least one end of it.
