|I have two spaces filled with well established perennials ( 20 years ). One
>area is an area approx 6 - 8 ft in diameter and holds Tiger Lilies. The other
>space is approx 3 ft in diameter and I have no idea what the perennial is but
>it looks like thick grass with purple flowers.
>My question is how can I remove these or kill them so I can re-establish a
>lawn area in their place?
|There are several approaches you could try. One woud be to contact a local garden club and see if they would like to harvest these plants for either a fundraiser plant sale or for themselves. Another would be to smother the plants over time with a thick layer of mulch placed over top a layer of heavy cardboard or several layers of dampened newspaper and then plant grass in late summer or early fall. Another method would be to use an herbicide containing glyphosate and follow the instructions on the label.|
