When I was a girl, my Grandmother took in two gentleman borders. In exchange for room and board they planted her a vegetable garden. One of the items they planted were what they called "lemon cucumbers". They were delicious, the only problem is we haven't been able to find them since. They were pale in color, short and fat with dense flesh and were good with just salt on them. Do you know where I could find seeds for these mystery cucumbers or another name for them? Thank you for your time. |
What a terrific story! Oddly enough, the cucumbers you describe are actually called Lemon Cucumbers and are sold by Territorial Seed Company, PO Box 157, Cottage Grove, OR 97424-0061. Phone (541) 942-9547. Lemon cucumbers grow on 3'-4' tall bush-type plants. The fruits are apple-shaped with lemon-colored skins, and the flesh is very mild and sweet. They're a favorite of mine. I like them best in salads! |
