A friend of mine said that it's not good to rototill every season. Is that true?

I'm not sure where that information comes from, but it isn't true. You can harm the soil by cultivating when it is soggy wet, but not by rototilling every season. Overly wet soils are easily compacted and tilling in this condition can produce large clods that become hard as concrete when they dry out. You can cultivate soil at the beginning (and end) of each season without damage, as long as the soil isn't too wet.
