I seem to have difficulty in growing eggplants. Perhaps I need to add something to my soil?

If you can grow tomatoes, you should be able to grow eggplants, too. They need warm weather, full sun, very rich and warm soil, and may benefit from using lightweight fabric rowcovers as an insect barrier. The main problem in my experience is trying to start them too early when the soil and daytime temperatures aren't quite warm enough, and this can stunt the plants. Wait about two weeks after the average frost-free date in your area, so that the soil is warm, days are near 70F, with nights reliably above 45F.
