Late Pruning Ornamental Grasses - Knowledgebase Question

I started some grasses last year and I didn't cut them back in the fall. Now they are a golden color. What do I do to start the new growth?

The grasses should be cut back in late fall or early spring to as close to the ground as you can manage. This might be about 6 inches or so. Since it is a bit late in the season to be cutting them, check and see if the tips have already begun to grow inside the old foliage. If so, trim them off higher (maybe 12 inches) so that you don't damage the new growth. The new growth will soop cover the uncut portion of the brown stems.
