There are several possible reasons for why daffodils would fail to bloom. The bulbs may need more sun (full sun is best) or better soil, another is that they are old and crowded and need to be lifted, divided and replanted. Another possibility is that they have not been allowed to grow and ripen their foliage as needed to replenish themselves to bloom. Make sure the foliage is allowed to grow fully and turn at least half way brown before it is removed each spring. Finally, some varieties simply are not terribly long lived under garden conditions.
