| The Alberta spruce grows fairly slowly so you could either move it up to the next size container each spring or plant it now in something larger, such as a half barrel, where it could stay for several years. Since it will be outdoors year round it is probably better to use a larger container so that the roots will be better insulated during the winter. In terms of soil, you might want to try to match the type of potting soil it came planted in, alternatively you could use any of the soilless mixes. If your tree is already acclimated to the outdoors, go ahead and transplant it now so the roots can adjust and grow into the new soil before the plant faces the stress of hot weather. |
