I have never grown broccoli raab before. I live at the 3500 foot elevation in planting zone # 7. I need to know when I can put plants in the garden, about how many plants to plant per person and whether you cut down the whole plant at once or single stems or what?

Broccoli raab is known in Italy as Broccolo asparago, or asparagus broccoli. This plant produces delicate, tender buds and stems on 22 inch tall plants. Harvest as you would broccoli, taking the center stem and unopened flower buds. Side shoots will provide a second harvest. Plants go from seed to harvest in about 45 days.

Since the plant produces smaller shoots than regular broccoli, you'll probably want to plant more to accommodate your family. Expect to harvest about 75 pounds from a 100' row. Plant seeds in late April to harvest before the weather gets too warm. Thin your plants to about 12" apart.
