I have a ficus tree since September, and while it appears to be getting a little taller it doesn't seem to "bush out". Am I expecting too much? How often should I water it?

Ficus or Weeping Fig does not grow as fast as some of the less woody houseplants. It will grow densest in brighter light and will grow more actively during the spring and summer months. To encourage branching, you might trim off a few of the longer branch tips. Each cut should result in branching from that spot, but it will not branch out from the bottom of the trunk if it is growing in tree form.

The tree should be watered enough to keep it evenly moist but not sopping wet when it is in active growth, but water it a bit less in winter when it slows down. Fertilize it during the growing season with a houseplant fertilizer for foliage plants according to the label instructions.
