HELP!! I made a mistake. I planted my seeds to close together. They are green onion and lettuce sprouts. The two vegetables are far from each other, but when i planted i must have put too many seeds together. Now i have a small tightly knit patch of green onion sprouts and a small area of lettuce sprouts. Will the seedlings survive growing that close together? Should i wait till they grow bigger, then weed some fo them out? |
There are several things you can do. If they are outside, simply pull and eat the excess onions as baby scallions, harvesting to create increasingly wider spaces. If you have leaf lettuce, treat it as a cutting green and clip it off to harvest. You can also try to transplant them while they are still small. Water well ahead of time, then carefully separate and replant the onions. The lettuce, if it is leaf lettuce, can be separated and planted in small clumps rather than individually. Water well after you do this and work on a cloudy day if possible. If you planted a heading lettuce you will need to weed them out so the heads have room to develop. |
