We have 2 red maples and a redbud tree that we planted last spring (1999). They were container grown and so we planted them and left them alone. Now we are wondering when would be the best time to prune them (removing branches that are too low). Is it acceptable to prune them in the spring?

It would be better to wait until early summer to do this, however it might be better to wait a few years so that the trees can use the foliage on those branches to fuel their early growth.
