| Hello. I just recently moved from the city to the burbs, and so I know little about planting trees (or anything else for that matter). We have a corner house, which is pretty windy, and I would like to plant a crabapple tree (or a tree that will grow to about medium-size) Will a crabapple withstand a high-wind area? The soil is pretty moist and the area has absolutely no shade or any protection, which is primarily why I want to plant the tree. I liked the flowering crabapple because it can grow to a medium-height, which I need, but any other suggestions on a medium, flowering-tree is welcomed! |
| Crabapple, redbud (Cercis canadensis), and goldenrain (Koelreuteria) would all be possible choices for a windy spot. Crabapples are available in a wide range of sizes depending on type, so check that along with its disease resistance which also varies widely by type if you use one of them. Redbuds are small trees in the 25 foot range, and goldenrain is slightly larger to about 30 feet. |
