My sister in Oklahoma gave me an annual called "Batface". I believe she told me it was from the heather family. The flowers are small and tubular with the enlongated portion a bright mangenta pink and the blossom end having purple "ears". The blooms actually resemble a bat's face - hence the name. I live in the Ohio Valley area and would love to find this plant up here. Any idea what the botanical name of this plant is?

There is a plant called Tacca chantrieri (The Bat Plant) that sounds like what you are describing. It is available from Thompson & Morgan at ph. 800-274-7333.
