Which type of asparagus should I plant to obtain a good "white" crop (through mulching)? I live in Connecticut.

You can use any type of asparagus; what makes it white is that it's grown in the dark, or blanched. The traditional way to blanch asparagus is to mound mulch or sand around the spears as they emerge. However, it's easier to blanch them under an opaque cover, and it helps keep the spears clean.
