We started our pineapple plant from the top of a bought pineapple. It has already flowered and produced a pineapple. Can you suggest the proper time and procedure for harvesting the fruit without damaging the plant? This plant has become quite amazing to all of us; we would like to maintain it the best way possible.

Pineapples turn a golden brown rather than green when ripe and develop a nice pineapple fragrance. To harvest the pineapple, cut it off at the base of the fruit. The mother plant only fruits once. It will not survive long but will produce daughter plants from its base. These can be left in a clump or broken off and potted up as individual plants.
