When do you plant dahlias in the south?

Pat,

In the south, you can plant container grown plants any time of the year. In the heat of summer it is more difficult to get them going and to find the happy medium between over and under watering as they are getting established.

If you are planting seed or tubers, do so from February through April. The plants will need a full season of growing before being large and old enough to bloom.
