Bulbs are planted pointy end up; tender summer blooming bulbs that can be planted in spring would include caladium, tuberose, gladiola, canna (technically not a bulb but often included) and so on. For more information about these, how, when and where to plant them as well as how to select and care for manyaddtional types of bulbs, you might want to look at "Flowering Bulbs for Dummies" by Judy Glattstein, ISBN 0-7645-5103-5, Dummy Press.
