I am a new gardener in southern PA--When is the best time to plant sweet corn and what variety is recommended?

Sweet corn is best planted in late spring when the temperatures both day and night are over about 50 degrees and the soil has warmed somewhat. The supersweet varieties do better with even warmer temperatures. The reason for this is that the seed may rot in cold wet soil. You might consult with your County Extension (263-9226) as to suggested varieties known to do well in your area, or you might try whatever selection appeals to you; Burpee offers a nice selection for home gardeners, for example.
