Some annuals for a sunny spot would include marigolds, zinnias, salvia, sweet potato vine, dahlias, flowering vinca rosea, tothonia and sunflower. Perennials for a sunny spot would include purple coneflower, black-eyed Susan, daylilies, bulb lilies, sedum, veronica and cosmos. All of these plants will do best if the soil is well prepared with the addition of lots of organic matter such as compost, rotted leaves, or aged stable manure and bedding. Maintaining a few inches of mulch and watering deeply, but less often rather than a daily light sprinkling will also help.
