|Poinsettias should be cut back quite hard in early spring prior to being set outdoors for the summer. They should also be pinched regularly up to mid summer to keep them bushy and of a manageable size. If the plant is truly out of control and very lanky, it might be better to take and root a tip cutting and start a new plant that can be trained to a better shape.
