Sugar beets are grown commercially and used to produce beet sugar. Seed would be available through a farm seed supplier, but it is not practical to grow sugar beets to produce your own sugar -- the equipment is too specialized for home use. In the garden, we grow "garden beets" or "red beets" (and sometimes specialty beets that come in yellow or white or stripes) but these are a different type of beet meant for table eating.
