| I am looking for an evergreen groundcover that will densely cover the 1 1/2 foot wide strip (103 feet long) between the sidewalk and the street. The previous owners tried grass, but we have lots of walkers and dogs that pass by our house everyday, and the dogs left lots of offerings there. So then they tried vinca, which helped with the dogs, but not with the weeds. We're at about 800 feet elevation, so we tend to get just a little more cold and snow than the rest of our area. The area receives full sun. So far the best I have come up with is wooly thyme. What do you think about that? Any other suggestions? I'd rather have a broader, brighter green leaf. Ajuga doesn't always make it through the winter here, but something like that. I also would prefer something that wouldn't need tons of trimming. |
| Have you considered pachysandra, vancouveria or sarcococca? All are well-behaved broadleaf evergreens. Another plant that will grow well for you is Euonymus fortunei. It comes in variegated leaf colors (green and yellow or green and white) which might add interest to the area. |
