I recieved an easter lily for easter and I was told that it could be planted outside. Can you give some tips on how to plant it and what kind of sunlight/shade it needs and watering tips? Also when should it be planted and can I expect to see it next year? |
Your lily can be planted outdoors as soon as temperatures moderate and are above freezing at night. Gradually acclimate it to the weather by setting it in a sheltered spot and moving into a brighter location each day. Keep the soil evenly moist but not sopping wet. Plant the lily in a location with full or half day sun and a rich, well drained soil meaning one that does not stay soggy. Allow the stem and foliage to grow all summer. Remove the stem and apply several inches of mulch over top of the bulb in late fall. Assuming the lily is a hardy variety, it should peep through the soil next spring about when the tulips bloom. |
