Periwinkle Grown From Seed - Knowledgebase Question

I've bought some Vinca Periwinkle seeds and the directions say to "start indoors in a warm, well-lighted area..." but then say "Cover lightly but completely; darkness is needed for germination." I'm confused - should I put them in a light or dark area?

While the instructions seem odd, they are correct! Vinca seeds need darkness to germinate, which is why you need to cover them with soil. Then, once the seeds sprout, the seedlings need bright light. Some seeds need light to germinate and they're simply sprinkled on the soil surface but not covered with additional soil. Hope this clears up the confusion!
