Rhubarb can be divided in late fall or very early spring when it is dormant, but the plant should be at least three or four years old before you divide it. Prepare the planting area ahead of time. Dig the crown and separate so that each section has several buds on it. Keep as much of the root as possible and replant immediately. The pieces should be planted about two to three inches deep and watered in well to settle the soil.
