Can I plant my patio and cherry tomato seeds directly into a pot outdoors at this time, I could not start them earlier as I was out of the country?

You could plant them directly in the ground, if you'd like. They should nearly catch up to those started earlier indoors since the growing conditions are so much better outside. If you start them in small pots, you would be better off doing it indoors because outdoors is usually too windy and drying for the little seedling containers. Alternatively, plant them in the larger containers where they will be grown, plant them a bit deep (as you would in the garden), set them in a sheltered spot and be very careful about the watering until they have germinated and have some size.
