I would like to start a herb garden on my deck. But I live in the Puget Sound area and would like to know how to keep the plants alive through the winter?

If you can insulate the roots in some way, keep them out of wind, and shelter them from excessive rain, many herbs should survive. Some gardeners use a cold frame, some use mulch piled around the pots, others set the pots in a styrofoam cooler filled with dry leaves, others wrap them in burlap stuffed with straw. Experiment and see which method is best for you, and do keep an eye out for rodents.
