I started seeds indoors and they were doing well until my husband left the seedlings outdoors overnight. Needless to say the seedlings died and I have to start again. What I was wondering is can I start my herb and vegetable garden directly outdoors or should I start the seeds indoors. The seed packages say indoor sowing. |
The answer to your question really depends on which plants you are trying to grow, but many vegetables can be started outdoors pretty easily, even tomatoes. Annual herbs such as basil should also start well outside. Perennial herbs may be better started under the controlled conditions of indoors or in a sheltered spot in pots. Exceptions would include plants that need a cool soil temperature to germinate, but even these can be germinated indoors where it is cool and then transplanted when rather small. The plants should nearly catch up because the outdoor growing conditions are so much better than indoors. I'm sorry about your plants freezing. |
