What are the steps required to care for a pea plant? ie: food for plant, how does plant grow properly, what does it attach to. |
Peas are legumes and can fix nitrogen from the soil, so their fertilizer requirements are relatively low; the seeds should be soaked in water for several hours and treated with inoculant prior to planting for best germination and growth. They need a cool soil to germinate and are planted very early in the season or sometimes as a fall crop. Climbing varieties need a wire mesh or netting or twiggy support because they attach themselves with little tendrils that wrap around the support. Frequent picking can keep some varieties producing longer, but hot weather generally stops them altogether. I hope this answers your question. |
