Today I purchased ten photinia fraseri. The label on the plant tells me the photinia will spread 5-6 feet. My garden book says it will spread ten feet or more. Can you give me a better idea just how wide these plants will get? Thank you very much.

Photinia fraseri is an evergreen shrub with moderate to fast growth and the potential to reach 15' and about 20' wide. There are compact types, such as P. fraseri 'Indian Princess', so perhaps you've purchased one of the dwarf kinds. You can clip or shear photinia to keep it inbounds and to promote new leaf growth each spring. One of the attributes of photinia is reddish new leaves, so annual pruning will keep your plants dense and colorful and still contain their size, if that's a concern in your garden.
