| I just recieved a lavender "hybrid tea rose bush" I have asked several family members how to prune it and I have gotten different answers every time. This bush is very fragrent and has many blooms and buds and I do not want to kill it.HELP |
| Usually, a new hybrid tea purchased in bloom will not need pruning. Remove any spent flowers to keep it producing more. When you do this, cut back each flowering stem to at least the first leaf with five leaflets. This keeps the plant looking neat, and encourages stronger stems and larger buds. For detailed instructions on annual maintenance pruning, fertilizing and general care of roses, you might want to look at a book or two. One I particularly like because it is thorough and has good clear illustrations is "Roses for Dummies" by Lance Walheim, Dummy Press, ISBN 0-7645-5031-4. Enjoy your new rose! |
