| I purchased an Azalea at a local KMart. No specifics as to genis species, juste listed care as Prt. Shade/Part sun,needs acid rich soil rich in organic matter. Can I plant this in an outdoor planter rather than in the ground? Will it "winter over" here,or, do I need to bring it in during the winter? |
| There are many varieties of azalea and some are certainly hardier than others. You might ask at the store where you purchased it if it was intended to be sold as a locally hardy plant (possibly with a garantee) or as a florist-type of azalea that would need to be kept as house plant. Alternatively, you could always plant it and see. One word of caution, however, is that above ground planters and containers subject the roots to much colder temperatures than they would experience if planted and insulated in the ground. This could make the difference between the plant surviving and not surviving, even if it is actually considered hardy in your area. |
