My husband and I love the bitter taste of arugula and mesclun. Is it too late to plant them directly outdoor in June?

As with many greens, these will do better in cooler weather. They grow very quickly, however, so it is worth trying into June. Planted in a little patch, they can be harvested by shearing and allowed to regrow everal times ("cut and come again"), you can also eat thinnings as soon as they are large enough to handle. You can plant at regular intervals throughout the spring to ensure an ongoing supply and start up again in the fall when the weather turns cooler again.
