Rose Leaves - Knowledgebase Question

My rose bush came up nicely this spring, but now the leaves are full of holes & some are eaten up completely. On the underside of the leaves there is a light green caterpillar of some sort. Can you tell me what this might be & how I can get rid of it? Also, will this ruin any roses we might have had this year? Should I cut back the bush & just wait for next year's blooms?

Do not cut the bush back. Losing a large amount of foliage can weaken the rose bush but the leaves should grow back quickly and be just fine. To control caterpillars you would use Bt or Bacillus thuringiensis according to the label instructions. You can also pick them off by hand and drop them into soapy water.
