|I recently bought two hollies. On one of the plants it just had the botanical name, but no descriptive information. Could you please give me the common name and some information on ilex Dwarf Burfordi? Also can you give me some info on the Green Luster Holly? (llex crenata 'Green Luster') Can both these plants be pollinated by a blue prince holly or must they be pollinated by a specific variety?
|Ilex cornuta 'Dwarf Burford' is the botanical name of one of your new plants. You can expect this Chinese holly to grow from 5'-6' tall at maturity and produce single-spined leaves. This holly has a dense growth habit and the fruits will be small and red. Ilex crenata 'Green Luster' is a Japanese holly with short stature, growing twice as wide as tall. It's an open, loose shrub with dark, lustrous leaves that have serrated rather than spined edges. Green luster is unisexual and produces almost black berries. Blue Prince is a hybrid English holly (Ilex aquifolium) and will pollinate other hollies. Hope this answers your questions!
